About Us

Botswana Accountancy College (BAC) was established in 1996 as joint venture between the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP), The Debswana Diamond Company and the Botswana Institute of Accountants (BIA). BAC asserts itself as a centre for excellence in the Southern Africa region and beyond. BAC provides the highest quality tertiary education in accounting, finance, business, management, hospitality, leisure, taxation, and ICT. The Institution has two campuses in Gaborone and Francistown with accommodation available.

For over 20 years, we have helped over 20,000 students realize their potential across multiple disciplines including computing, business, entrepreneurship, and several professional courses. Our goal is to build and develop the next generation of leaders by providing high-quality education that will equip them with the skills necessary to lead. We also offer various short-term courses to help equip and empower leaders to further create value in the stratosphere.

To provide a solution towards the skills capacity building and human capital development to meet the economic needs in Botswana and globally. To achieve this mandate, BAC offers a diverse portfolio of programmes through these schools:

Milestones


1996

Established in 1996 as joint venture between the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP), The Debswana Diamond Company and the Botswana Institute of Accountants (BIA), now BICA

1999

Gaborone Main Campus, in Fairgrounds officially opened

2000

Awarded ‘CIMA learning through partnership’, a quality assurance and prestigious accolade awarded to only two colleges outside of Europe.

2001

New partnership established with the University of De Montford for the delivery of MBA.

Courses for Insurance Institute of South Africa established.

2002

Partnership with the University of Sunderland for the delivery of BSc Computer Systems Engineering.

2004

Awarded Premier Plus status byACCA for quality assurance recognition in Africa.

Conferment of first BSc (Hons) Computer Engineering graduates.

2005

Pronounced the only CIMA Premium Learning Partner in Botswana and one of the Five in Africa.

2007

Francistown campus opens with enrolment of students in AAT.

Partnership with University of Derby to offer MSc Strategic Management and MBA top-up for ACCA and CIMA

2008

Introduction of BSc (Hons) Applied Business Computing and Certified Internal Audit programme.

BAC Francistown Campus officially opened.

2009

Partnership with University of Derby for delivery of Business & Leisure degree programmes in International Tourism Management, International Hospitality Management specializing in Hair Dressing and Salon Management.

First cohort for MBA programme top-up graduates

2010

First group of AAT students’ graduation for Francistown Campus.

Introduction of Computer Systems Engineering (CSE) at Francistown campus

2012

Launch of School of Business Leisure as a school.

Acquisition of new building space to expand teaching and learning and hostel accommodation across the Francistown city

2013

School of Business and Leisure introduced BA (Hons)International Tourism Management, BA (Hons)Hospitality Management and BA(Hons) Salon Management at FCTVE, Francistown

2014

SBL partners with Sheffield Hallam University in delivering degree programmes in International Finance and Banking, Business Management, Accounting and Finance, Entrepreneurship and Business Leadership.

First group of Computing student’s graduation from Francistown Campus.

Launch of the Industry Skills Centre for provision of CCNA, Microsoft Office and SAP Academy to offer ERP.

2015

BAC officially launches leisure programmes at the Francistown campus.

Adoption of Nxakato JSS in Sowa Town

2016

First group of SBL students graduate from Francistown Campus.

20th Anniversary Celebrations.

Won the 2016 Diamond Arrow Award from PMR Africa.

Won the 2016 AAT International Training Provider of the Year award.

Adoption of Sebele I Primary School in Molepolole

2017

Won 2017 BICA Best Tuition Provider.

Introduction of Executive MBA and MA Procurement and Logistics Management in partnership with Sheffield Hallam University.

BICA graduates first 8 Graduates all studied at BAC.

Introduction of CIPS.

Launch of School of Postgraduate Studies as a School.

Francistown Campus relocates from Barclays Plaza to a new campus - FCE.

BAC-CIMA student wins Position 7 in the World for Operational Case Study

Accredited as an Education and Training Provider

2018

Introduction on Professional Degree in Insurance in partnership with Insurance Institute of South Africa.

1st Woman from Africa and First BAC Lecturer to Win AAT International Tutor Awards at the AAT Training Provider Conference.

BAC Admits 2018 Barclays F.G Mogae Scholarship Beneficiaries to Study MastersProgrammes.

2019

Launch of Online LearningStudy Mode for (AAT, ACCA,CIMA, BICA and CFA).

School of Computing and Information Systems moves to a new campus at Somerset Industrial (Francistown).

BAC Lecturer Nominated highest perfoming instructure in Botswana at the Annual CISCO Safari Conference in South Africa.

2020

More than 13 000 Graduates at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

20 of 23 BICA graduates are BAC alumni.

Launch of Online learning in Eswatini.

Introduction of data sim-cards, laptops and tablets for students to enable remote learning support.

Opening of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship centre at the Francistown campus.

Partnership between Microsoft App Factory and BIH for student innovation and entrepreneurship projects

2021

BSc(Hons) Computing Systems Engineering Student becomes 1st Motswana and one of the 5 in Southern Africa to be Selected by Google to become a Google Developer Student Lead.
